  Mexico: Oaxaca

Santo Domingo Church

Note: Due to the political climate in Oaxaca, I am considering changing the location of the Mexican workshop to Michoacan. I will be visiting there from December 6 to January 2008. Details to be posted upon my return.

Oaxaca is a fascinating city situated in the southern bulge of Mexico, surrounded by mountains and rich with a diversity of people and cultures, Zapotec and Mixteca, among others.

The first workshop will begin with three days of festivities for "El Dia de los Muertos," the Day of the Dead. Both workshops will include some days spent discovering and sketching Oaxaca, and some days in excursions to nearby villages, Teotitlan del Valle and Tlacolula, and archaeological sites, Mitla and Monte Alban.

Accommodations

Casa Arnel is a family operated "pension", so you are guaranteed a peaceful and hospitable retreat when returning from your walks in the city or elsewhere.

La Casa features a terrace facing the 17th century church of San Matias Jalatlaco, and an enclosed patio, shaded with tropical plants and flowers. All rooms open to the garden, where birds sitting outside their cages talk and sing with you, adding a totally exotic touch to the place.

All rooms are double occupancy with a private bath, but single rooms are available for an additional cost.

Hearty breakfasts will be served on the terrace and traditional Oaxacan dinners will be served in Alba's Restaurant, near La Casa Arnel.
